The University of Wisconsin-Madison Division of Extension has a new beef outreach specialist. Bill Halfman will identify needs and incorporate research findings into high-quality outreach education programs around critical beef production issues to support the improvement and advancement of Wisconsin's beef industry.
Halfman has nearly three decades of Extension experience in various areas, including beef production and management. He has developed and presented programs and workshops and has also collaborated with neighboring states like Iowa, Illinois, and Michigan, as well as developing and sharing numerous decision-aid spreadsheets.
Bill also co-coordinated a Ranch to Rail steer performance project when he worked in southeast Minnesota. And he was the agriculture agent in Monroe County for many years.
Wisconsin's beef industry is growing and diverse with more than 14,000 farms raising beef cattle in at least one of several enterprises. Cattle and calves represent the second-largest agricultural commodity in Wisconsin with $1.7 billion in cash receipts.
