Hands-On Event Helps Growers Improve Soil and Crop Health

By Blake Jackson

Farmers, gardeners, and agricultural professionals are invited to attend an educational field event focused on soil health and cover crop management at Red Door Family Farm in Athens, Wisconsin.

The program will take place on Wednesday, July 15, 2026, from 1:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m.

Hosts Tenzin and Stacey Botsford will provide insights into their approach to incorporating cover crops into diversified vegetable production systems.

Attendees will learn about practices such as maintaining living aisles and using diverse cover crop mixtures to improve soil quality and support crop production.

Extension educators will lead hands-on demonstrations highlighting practical methods for evaluating soil health in the field.

Participants will have the opportunity to explore soil structure assessments, water infiltration testing, and techniques for identifying erosion risks.

The event is designed to help growers better understand how soil management practices can contribute to long-term farm productivity and environmental sustainability. Hmong interpretation services will be available, making the program accessible to a wider audience.

The workshop is free to attend, but advance registration is required. For registration, click here.
