Join Soil Health Event for Yellow River Area Farmers

Join Soil Health Event for Yellow River Area Farmers

By Blake Jackson

The UW-Madison Division of Extension is set to host a Soil Health Workshop on Friday, August 14, from 9:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. This event is specifically designed for individuals who farm, manage land, or collaborate with landowners in the Yellow River watershed.

The workshop will take place at Polzin Farm, located at 8492 County Highway XX near Cadott, Wisconsin. Attendees will explore various soil and nutrient conservation methods through real-time demonstrations, including the use of a rainfall simulator to observe how different practices affect soil management.

An added benefit for early registrants: the first 15 farms or crop consultants to sign up will receive a free soil health assessment kit. Participants will also be trained on how to use the kit to evaluate key soil health indicators such as compaction, water infiltration, and overall soil stability in their own fields.

The event is free to attend, and lunch will be provided. Due to limited space, pre-registration is required by August 7 to ensure adequate meals and educational materials for everyone.

Preference for soil kits will be given to those directly working within or near the Yellow River watershed.
