A longtime high school and technical college agriculture instructor has been recognized by his peers for his many years of dedication to the profession. Mike Sabel of Auburndale was honored with an agriculture Lifetime Achievement Award by the Wisconsin Association of Agriculture Educators and the National Association of Agriculture Educators this summer at the WAAE summer conference in June.
A graduate of the University of Wisconsin-Madison, Sabel began his career teaching agriculture at Mayville and Auburndale High Schools, where he also served as FFA advisor to those chapters. He then taught farm courses at Mid-State Technical College for 31 years, spending his days in the classroom with younger students, while holding night classes for active farm producers throughout central Wisconsin.
Over the years, Mike has been honored with the Outstanding Young Instructor award, Post-Secondary Instructor award, Outstanding Farm Business & Production Management Instructor award, and received the Red Apple Instructor award at both the Auburndale school district and MSTC.
Sabel retired in 2020, but remains active with the Marshfield Chamber's AgriBusiness Committee, serves as the treasurer of his local FFA Alumni chapter, and is actively involved in many other local organizations and church committees. He is also a member of the Wisconsin FFA Foundation's Blue and Gold Society.
