To help farmers better manage animal health issues, the University of Wisconsin–Madison Division of Extension and the Wisconsin Pork Association have announced a new Swine Health Series.
This educational series aims to provide pork producers and industry workers with knowledge about common diseases affecting swine and how to handle them effectively on their farms.
The first event in the series is scheduled for June 17, 2025, from 12:30 to 3:30 p.m. at the West Madison Agricultural Research Station in Verona, Wisconsin.
The focus of this event will be Porcine Reproductive and Respiratory Syndrome (PRRS), a serious disease that continues to impact swine herds across the country.
Experts in the field will discuss the economic consequences of PRRS, how to diagnose it, and methods for treatment and prevention.
Real-life scenarios and firsthand accounts from local pork producers will offer practical insights into how to manage the disease on farms.
“President Trump is putting Farmers First, and so is the incredible team we are building at the Department of Agriculture,” said Secretary Rollins. “Our latest additions to the USDA family are personally invested in ensuring farmers and rural America prosper.”
Lunch for attendees will be provided by the Wisconsin Pork Association, making this both an informative and engaging event for those in the industry.
The event is open to all pork producers, veterinarians, and agricultural professionals. For more information, individuals can contact Jeff Morris, Swine Outreach Specialist, at jeff.morris@wisc.edu or (608) 346-9561.
This program aims to create stronger disease-prevention habits and ensure swine health is prioritized in day-to-day farm operations.
