By Jamie Martin

The USDA 1890 National Scholars Program is now accepting applications for the 2025 cohort. This prestigious program provides full scholarships to students pursuing degrees in agriculture, food, natural resource sciences, and related fields at 1890 land-grant universities. High school seniors, rising sophomores, and juniors are encouraged to apply before the March 1, 2025, deadline.

“The USDA 1890 National Scholars Program enhances career opportunities for students at 1890 land-grant universities,” said Lisa Ramirez, USDA’s OPPE Director.

This program partners with 19 land-grant universities established under the 1890 Morrill Act. Scholarship recipients receive full tuition, fees, books, room and board, and summer internship opportunities with USDA. Successful scholars may secure permanent USDA roles upon completing program requirements.

Participating universities include Tuskegee University, Florida A&M University, and North Carolina A&T State University, among others. In 2024, 94 scholarships were awarded.

USDA’s long-standing commitment to agricultural education ensures the development of future leaders in food, agriculture, and natural resources.
