The University of Wisconsin-River Falls (UWRF) and Burnett Dairy Cooperative have formed a new partnership aimed at advancing Wisconsin’s dairy industry through education, research, and product innovation. Beginning November 1, milk from UWRF’s Mann Valley Farm is now being sent to Burnett Dairy Cooperative for processing.
This collaboration also supports the university’s Falcon Creamery, which will continue to receive milk from Mann Valley Farm for student-driven dairy production and learning programs.
“Partnerships with businesses are an important part of the professional development of our students,” said Michael Orth, dean of UWRF’s College of Agriculture, Food and Environmental Science. “We believe many unique opportunities will come from this new relationship with the Burnett Dairy Co-op.”
As part of the partnership, Burnett Dairy Cooperative will collaborate with Falcon Creamery and Falcon Foods to feature select UWRF-made dairy products in Burnett Dairy’s retail outlets in Grantsburg and Wilson, Wisconsin, as well as Duluth, Minnesota.
“Innovative thinking and cooperative spirit are two of Burnett Dairy’s core values,” said Matt Winsand, CEO of Burnett Dairy Cooperative. “There are so many opportunities for partnership both on the dairy science side of things as well as in the agricultural space, we are looking forward to see what the future may bring.”
The alliance also seeks to promote joint research between Burnett Dairy’s R&D team and UWRF’s Animal and Food Science Department, furthering both institutions’ commitment to agricultural innovation.
