The Sauk and Columbia County Chapters of the Wisconsin Farmers Union (WFU) are inviting members and guests to a day dedicated to community connection and conservation on Saturday, September 6, from 10 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. at the Aldo Leopold Foundation in Baraboo, WI.
The day will begin with a women’s-only prairie seed collection from 10 to 11:30 a.m., hosted in collaboration with Wisconsin Women in Conservation.
Guided by Aldo Leopold Foundation fellows, this interactive session offers women a chance to engage directly with the land while building connections through hands-on environmental stewardship.
At 11:30 a.m., the WFU Sauk and Columbia County Chapters will hold their annual meetings, running until 1:30 p.m. Attendees can enjoy a catered entrée from The Relish Tray Bistro, featuring locally sourced meat and produce from Bula’s Pleasant Valley Farm.
Guests are encouraged to bring a side dish or dessert to share. The meeting agenda will include welcome remarks, officer elections, WFU delegate selection, convention planning, and a review of chapter plans for 2025.
From 1:30 to 3:30 p.m., participants will be treated to a guided tour of the historic Aldo Leopold Shack. Led by Aldo Leopold Foundation staff, the tour will highlight Leopold’s influential legacy and his enduring “land ethic” philosophy, which continues to inspire conservationists worldwide.
“I’m excited that the Columbia and Sauk County Farmers Union Chapters can meet up at the Aldo Leopold Foundation. The Leopold ‘Shack’ is a treasure here in our backyard that attracts people from all over the world to learn and see the Leopold Land Ethic in action," said Sarah Lloyd, President, Columbia County Farmers Union.
"Farmers Union members are committed to the relationships we have in the community with our neighbors and with the land.”
Registration is required for each portion of the event.
