Wisconsin's farmers, rejoice! The Department of Natural Resources (DNR) is offering grants totaling $460,000 to fund two agricultural wetland mitigation projects. This initiative, funded by the Natural Resources Conservation Service, aims to restore and protect wetlands while providing farmers with compliance options.
Conservation groups, government organizations, and private landowners are all eligible to apply for these grants. The funds can cover engineering, construction, seeding, and maintenance costs, making wetland restoration more accessible. Notably, land acquisition is not eligible for funding.
Launched in 2022, the Wisconsin Agricultural Mitigation Bank program empowers farmers to meet federal wetland requirements. The program has already restored 35 acres of wetlands across the state, and now seeks two new projects to expand its impact.
Applications are accepted on a rolling basis starting March 1st, 2024. To ensure your project receives consideration, submit your application as soon as possible. Don't hesitate to discuss your project with Nathan Dhuey, DNR's Agriculture Mitigation Specialist, for guidance Nathan.Dhuey@wisconsin.gov or 608-640-0241.
This grant opportunity presents a valuable chance for stakeholders to collaborate in wetland restoration, benefiting both the environment and agricultural communities. Seize this opportunity and contribute to a greener, healthier Wisconsin! The application and additional information can be found on the program’s webpage.
