Wisconsin sheep and wool festival 2024

By Blake Jackson

The Wisconsin Sheep & Wool Festival is set to return for its 22nd year, taking place from September 6th to 8th at the Jefferson County Fairgrounds in Jefferson. This year's festival promises a variety of exciting events and activities for attendees.

One of the highlights of this year's festival is the inaugural Leicester Longwool Card Grading Event. This unique event will involve a panel of national judges evaluating exhibited sheep in a ring.

The judges will focus on specific traits and breed characteristics, providing valuable insights into the quality of the sheep.

In addition to the card grading event, the festival will offer several educational sessions for attendees.

Leicester Longwool producers will share their expertise on topics such as Tasmanian Agriculture, while the Wisconsin Sheep Breeders Cooperative will host sessions on wool marketing, solar grazing, and dairy sheep.

For those interested in culinary arts, Chef Paul Short from Madison College will be conducting a lamb cooking demonstration in the Activity Center.

The festival will also feature the Crook & Whistle Stock Dog Trial, where 60 handlers will compete in three days of intense competition.

The Country Store will be bustling with activity, featuring over 120 vendors from across the country and a wide range of fiber arts classes. This year's festival boasts the largest fiber arts program in the United States.

Whether you're a sheep enthusiast, a fiber artist, or simply looking for a fun and educational experience, the Wisconsin Sheep & Wool Festival offers something for everyone.

Don't miss this opportunity to celebrate the rich heritage of sheep farming and wool production in Wisconsin.
