Wisconsin State Fair to Open its Gates

The opening ceremonies for the 2022 Wisconsin State Fair will be held this morning at the state fairgrounds near Milwaukee. Gov. Tony Evers and other dignitaries will be on hand to welcome visitors as the 171st annual event kicks-off its 11-day run on Thursday. A performance by the Kids From Wisconsin will also be among the day's festivities.

This year's attractions include the Livestock Auction, the Blue Ribbon Dairy Products Auction, induction of farms into the Century Farm and Sesquicentennial Farm program, and learn more about agriculture at the Dairy Lane exhibit area.

Grandstand performances this year include names like The Oakridge Boys, Kansas, Jeff Dunham, Jamey Johnson, Zach Williams, Kidz Bop, Sesla, Nelly, and commedy by Charlie Bernes.

There will also be a record number of food items available, including 80 new food and beverage options ranging from the Chicken Bacon Ranch Waffle Stick to the Gummy Bear Brat. As always, fairgoers will have the chance to taste old favorites like the cream puffs and chocolate covered bacon.

Meanwhile, Thursday is Hunger Task Force Day at the fair, which means any attendee who brings a jar of peanut butter or make a cash donation outside any State Fair admission entrance will get into the grounds for only $5.00.

In the coliseum, the world's largest junior dairy show will begin today with the Holstein show, followed by the Clydesdale Draft Horses-Hitch Classes later in the evening.

The fair runs through August 14, where nearly a million people are expected to pass through the gates.
