Navigating carbon offsets and insets in dairy production
Wisconsin Ag Connection - 04/01/2024

Dairy farmers can look forward to a week of informative episodes on The Dairy Signal® this April. The program, offered by Professional Dairy Producers®, provides timely information on various aspects of dairy farm management.

This week's lineup covers a range of topics relevant to dairy producers:

• Bovine Leukemia Virus (BLV): Learn about transmission, identification, prevention, and management of BLV, including its potential financial impact on a dairy farm. The episode features Dr. Keith Poulsen, a leading expert from the University of Wisconsin.

• Managed Grazing Systems for Heifers: Discover how raising dairy heifers on a managed grazing system can benefit your farm. This episode explores cost reduction, improved animal performance, and positive environmental impacts on water quality and soil health. Jason Cavadini, a grazing specialist from UW-Madison Extension, will be the presenter.

• Carbon Offsets and Insets for Dairy Producers: Gain insights into carbon offsets and insets, including their role in reducing the carbon footprint of dairy farms and related industries. Patrick Wood, Founder of Ag Methane Advisors, will present the latest information and updates on this topic, building on content originally presented at the PDP's Carbon Conference.

The Dairy Signal® episodes are valuable not only for the information they provide, but also for the opportunity to earn continuing education (CE) units. Through Dairy AdvanCE®, viewers can earn up to 0.5 CE units per episode by completing a short online quiz. This program simplifies CE management for dairy farmers, industry professionals, and students.

The Dairy Signal® airs live on Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays from 12:00 to 1:00 PM CT. Recordings are also available for later viewing. Farmers and students can access these resources for free, while industry professionals have a one-time subscription fee. To learn more, visit www.DairyAdvance.org.
