Managing people requires a unique skill set one that differs greatly from managing dairy calves or cows but it’s just as vital to a dairy’s success.
The Dairy Managers Institute, hosted by Professional Dairy Producers (PDP), offers an in-depth management and leadership development program aimed at helping dairy producers and industry professionals strengthen their communication and leadership skills.
The 2025 program will take place December 16-17 at Northeast Wisconsin Technical College in Green Bay, Wisconsin. Beginning at 8:30 a.m. on Tuesday and ending at 4:00 p.m.
On Wednesday, the event features three progressive training tiers, each focusing on key areas of leadership, coaching, and business management. While it isn’t mandatory, attendees are encouraged to take the tiers in order for the best learning experience. All sessions will also be simultaneously translated into Spanish.
Participants will select one tier during registration:
Tier One: “Lead and Manage with Insight”
Led by Dr. Becky Stewart-Gross, president and founder of Building Bridges Seminars, this session helps participants understand leadership categories, identify personal management strengths and weaknesses, and distinguish between leadership and managerial roles. Attendees will also explore effective change management and how to support team members during transitions.
Tier Two: “Master the Art of Coaching”
Presented by Michael Hoffman, founder of Igniting Performance, Inc., this tier provides strategies for conducting productive coaching conversations, delivering constructive feedback, fostering team commitment, and enhancing communication skills such as empathy and active listening.
Tier Three: “Nail the Financials and Negotiations”
Led by Dr. Kevin Bernhardt of the University of Wisconsin-Platteville and Linda Swindling, author and negotiation expert, this session focuses on understanding farm financials, identifying break-even points, and developing effective negotiation techniques. Participants will learn how to recognize when to compromise, walk away, or renegotiate agreements.
Registration is now open, and fees include materials and meals. For more information or lodging details, visit www.pdpw.org or call 800-947-7379. Each tier is accredited for up to 14 Dairy AdvanCE continuing education credits.
