If you are new to beef production or a dairy producer considering expanding or transitioning into beef, the University of Wisconsin-Madison Division of Extension offers a free six-part course, School for Beginning Beef Production. This online program is designed to provide practical knowledge and skills to help new and aspiring beef producers succeed.
The sessions will be held via Zoom from 7 to 8:30 p.m. Central time on the following dates:
- Jan 27 - Business of beef and exploring your production options
- Jan 29 - Goal setting and marketing strategies
- Feb 3 - Perennial forage management and cow-calf nutrition
- Feb 5 - Veterinary care, biosecurity, and recordkeeping
- Feb 10 - Herd reproduction and planning for the future
- Feb 12 - Annual forage management and an introduction to stocker, backgrounder, and finishing enterprises
Participants will gain access to additional resources to support learning and implementation. The course offers a convenient, online format for those looking to build foundational knowledge in beef production without incurring costs.
