The Marshfield School Forest has been selected by the Wisconsin Tree Farm Committee to receive the group's first-ever Educational Tree Farm of the Year award. The program aims to promote the practice of sustainable forestry on forest lands throughout the state.
Located on a 320-acre property with a long history of forest management, the Marshfield School District acquired the property and had it certified as an American Tree Farm.
Income from timber harvests over the years has been used to fund various improvements on the grounds, such as a mile-long gravel access road and renovations to its four-season lodge.
The school forest is also home to a large pond with bass, bluegills and crappies; and an expansive trail system with 7.5 miles of hiking and cross country ski trails.
