The Wisconsin Pork Association (WPA) has announced the return of its Young Leaders Program for the second year, scheduled for Saturday, September 13, 2025, at the Arlington Ag Research Station Public Events Pavilion in Arlington, WI.
This one-day event is open to youth ages 13-18, as of January 1, 2025, who have an interest in agriculture, particularly the swine industry.
The program aims to provide young people with a deeper understanding of Wisconsin’s pork industry while helping them build connections with agricultural professionals across the state.
Participants will expand their knowledge in areas such as pork production, diverse career paths, agricultural advocacy, and professionalism.
Attendees will experience a full day of hands-on and interactive activities designed to prepare them for both personal and career success. Highlights include collaborating with other young agriculture enthusiasts, touring the Arlington Swine Research Station, taking part in culinary activities, and engaging with industry professionals to explore career options.
Participants will also learn about opportunities available through Wisconsin’s universities and technical colleges, as well as enjoy unique recreational activities.
“Through this program, I gained valuable knowledge about the pork industry including animal care, production practices, and agricultural advocacy," Reflecting on his experience last year, Bryce Peter of Howards Grove, WI, said. "I also developed leadership and communication skills, built lasting connections with peers who share my interests, and strengthened my passion for agriculture and the pork industry.”
WPA emphasizes the importance of preparing young people for future roles in agriculture. “WPA’s mission is to promote and protect our industry to ensure its success now and in the future. When our youth committee came up with this idea two years ago, we were ecstatic and had an excellent program last year," Keri Retallick, WPA’s Executive Vice President, stated.
"What better way to serve our purpose than by developing talented, passionate young people who will be the industry’s future leaders. We feel that we have organized another robust program and are excited to engage with young people while showcasing all that Wisconsin’s agriculture and swine industry has to offer them.”
Registration is $10 per person and is due by September 6, 2025. For more details or to register, visit www.wppa.org/youth/young-leaders-program, email wppa@wppa.org, or call 608-723-7551.
