Mid-State Technical College hosted its 49th annual Farm Tour on March 10, bringing together more than 100 farmers, students, educators, and agricultural professionals for a day focused on learning, collaboration, and modern farming practices.
Sponsored by Fox Cities Builders, the 2026 event emphasized the role of data-driven decision-making and partnerships in advancing agriculture across Wisconsin. The tour was also recognized as an Outreach and Dissemination project by the Community College Alliance for Agriculture Advancement (C2A3), with partial funding support from the organization.
“Mid-State’s Farm Tour is really about bringing people together and showcasing agriculture,” said Dr. Alex Lendved, dean of the Marshfield Campus and School of Applied Technology. “It’s an opportunity for everyone to see innovation firsthand and have real conversations about what’s working in agriculture today.”
Participants toured Elusive Hill Dairy, where they explored a modern dairy operation featuring recent facility upgrades. Highlights included a new BouMatic 72-cow rotary milking parlor designed to enhance efficiency, improve cow movement, and streamline labor management.
The event also included a stop at the Marshfield Agricultural Research Station, known for its work in crop production, soil health, water quality, and sustainable farming. Experts from the USDA Natural Resources Conservation Service shared practical insights for farmers.
Adam Abel discussed grazing systems and forage management, including the use of cropland and cover crops to support regenerative agriculture. Meanwhile, Jamie Patton, agronomist with the USDA Natural Resources Conservation Service, demonstrated simple field tools for evaluating soil health and delivered the keynote address on emerging trends and practical applications.
Attendees also engaged in networking and discussions with industry professionals, reinforcing the connection between education, research, and real-world farming. The college has already announced plans for its milestone 50th Farm Tour, scheduled for March 9, 2027.
