New Florida Funding Supports Farm Water Projects

New Florida Funding Supports Farm Water Projects

By Jamie Martin

The Florida Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services (FDACS), under the direction of Commissioner Wilton Simpson, has announced the launch of the Agricultural Regional Projects Program, providing $25 million in funding for innovative agricultural water projects.

The initiative supports regional collaboration to address water quality challenges, nutrient reduction, and sustainable agricultural practices across Florida.

“Protecting Florida’s water resources is essential to our state’s future — and Florida’s farmers, ranchers, and growers are central to that mission,” said Commissioner Wilton Simpson.

“Through the Agricultural Regional Projects Program, we are building strong partnerships that can deliver real, science-based solutions to improve water quality and conserve our water supply.”

The program, led by the FDACS Office of Agricultural Water Policy, will fund large-scale projects that:

  • Reduce nitrogen and phosphorus to meet or exceed state water quality standards.
  • Improve water quality and supply through innovative management techniques.
  • Support technology-based nutrient management and conservation strategies.
  • Align with Florida’s agricultural sustainability and environmental goals.

Eligible participants include private landowners, local governments, water management districts, educational institutions, and conservation organizations. Collaborative proposals that deliver regional environmental benefits are encouraged to apply.

Applications will be accepted through November 7, 2025, at 5 p.m. EST, and detailed information about requirements and eligibility can be found at FDACS.gov.

Commissioner Simpson noted that the program strengthens Florida’s leadership in sustainable agriculture and environmental protection by supporting science-driven, cooperative water projects.

By investing in innovation and collaboration, the initiative ensures that Florida’s agriculture sector remains productive while protecting vital water resources for future generations.
