New PhytoGen® Cottonseed Varieties Set for 2027

New PhytoGen® Cottonseed Varieties Set for 2027

By Jamie Martin

Cotton growers will have new planting options in 2027 as PhytoGen® cottonseed expands its product lineup with three newly developed varieties. The introductions are aimed at helping producers improve productivity while managing environmental and pest-related challenges.

The new varieties include PHY 362 W3FE, PHY 491 W3FE, and PHY 207 W3FE. These products build on recent advancements in the PhytoGen® portfolio and are designed to deliver consistent performance across a range of growing conditions.

“With these new varieties for 2027, we continue a new era at PhytoGen cottonseed that began with last year’s product introductions,” said Joel Faircloth, Ph.D., Corteva Portfolio Leader – Cotton. “Our breeders exceeded expectations again by adding three more varieties to our portfolio with breakthrough yield potential and excellent fiber quality.”

PHY 362 W3FE is a broadly adapted variety with early to mid-season maturity. The variety is suited for both dryland and irrigated production systems and offers strong fiber quality along with high yield potential. PHY 491 W3FE is a mid to full-season variety developed for areas where growers favor longer maturities and premium fiber characteristics.

Researchers and breeders focused on developing varieties capable of performing across different soil types and weather conditions. Both PHY 362 W3FE and PHY 491 W3FE include resistance to major cotton threats such as bacterial blight, reniform nematodes and root-knot nematodes, helping protect yield potential throughout the season.

Recent university and breeder trials highlighted the competitive performance of the new products. Trial data showed PHY 362 W3FE achieving notable yield advantages over competitor varieties, while PHY 491 W3FE produced strong results in irrigated testing environments.

The third introduction, PHY 207 W3FE, was specifically bred for the High Plains region. It offers early maturity, drought tolerance, and strong storm resilience. The variety is intended for growers seeking reliable performance on both irrigated acres and double-crop wheat fields.

Testing conducted across multiple locations showed PHY 207 W3FE producing favorable yield results compared with competing products. During the 2026 season, growers participating in the PhytoGen® Horizon Network planted new varieties in on-farm trials to further evaluate their performance under commercial growing conditions.
