The Holstein Association USA has recognized several junior members from Wisconsin who have bred and own exceptional Holstein dairy cattle. The awards are based on both conformation and milk production and are designed to reward student members for their excellent breeding programs.
A cow owned by Sydni, Samuel & Blake Mell placed in the top 10 for the National Star Performer Award. That program recognizes well-rounded Holstein cows with exceptional milk and component production, as well as admirable classification scores. The cow must be bred and still currently owned by their Junior Holstein breeder; have an RHA of at least 87 percent; be enrolled in Holstein Association USA's TriStar production records program; and have a 305-day or less lactation completed in the last calendar year of at least 25,000 pounds milk.
Another Wisconsin cow received a top 10 placing for the National Cream of the Crop Award. That animals is owned by Evan Strack, which is being recognized for having produced the highest combined pounds of fat and protein during a 305-day lactation.
And a National Junior 150,000 Pound Lifetime Production Award was presented to Colton, Ashley, Justin, and Katie Brandel for owning a cow which produced over 150,000 pounds of milk in her lifetime.
