The Administration, through the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA), is furthering its commitment to rural development with a significant investment in clean energy in Nebraska.
USDA Secretary Tom Vilsack announced a near $30 million award to SE Municipal Solar LLC to establish solar generation facilities across the state. This initiative, part of the Powering Affordable Clean Energy (PACE) program, aims to construct facilities capable of producing 18.72 megawatts, sufficient to power over 1,700 homes.
This funding, sourced from the Inflation Reduction Act, marks the largest investment in rural electrification since the 1936 Rural Electrification Act.
The selected locations for these solar facilities include Alliance, Gering, Sidney, and other key sites, chosen to optimize the impact on local communities by lowering electricity costs and creating job opportunities.
USDA Rural Development's involvement highlights ongoing efforts to not only enhance energy infrastructure but also to provide economic uplift through job creation and training opportunities in these communities.
This initiative is a part of a broader strategy under the Justice40 Initiative to ensure that 40% of the benefits from federal investments in clean energy and other areas reach disadvantaged communities. This strategic approach underscores the administration's dedication to equitable development and sustainability in America's rural landscapes.
