State Beef Councils discuss strategies at Denver PIA event

By Blake Jackson

The Wisconsin Beef Council was among the state beef councils that gathered in Denver, Colorado, for the annual Partnerships in Action (PIA) conference.

This event, organized by the Federation of State Beef Councils and funded by the Beef Checkoff, aims to strengthen collaboration between state and national beef organizations.

The conference focused on how the National Cattlemen’s Beef Association (NCBA), a Beef Checkoff contractor, and state beef councils work together to promote beef consumption. Attendees discussed program strategies, consumer trends, and upcoming Beef. It’s What’s For Dinner. campaigns.

“This event consistently proves invaluable for our team, offering the chance to collaborate with other states and share best practices in consumer education and beef promotion,” Tammy Vaassen, Executive Director of the Wisconsin Beef Council said. “The insights we gain allow us to bring innovative ideas back to Wisconsin and put them into action.”

Nearly 80 representatives from 32 state beef councils attended, including key members of the Wisconsin Beef Council such as Executive Director Tammy Vaassen, Marketing Director Angie Horkan, Communications and Outreach Director Kaitlyn Kesler, and Compliance and Producer Outreach Director Grace Link.

The Wisconsin Beef Council is actively involved in the Federation of State Beef Councils, contributing to the national Checkoff and leveraging producer dollars through a coordinated partnership. The Federation was established in 1963 by grassroots producers to enhance beef research and promotion efforts.

By participating in PIA, the Wisconsin Beef Council gains valuable insights and strategies to bring back to Wisconsin and implement in its own programs.
