Terry Howell Jr. has been appointed as the new head of the Biological and Agricultural Engineering Department at the University of Arkansas. With a background in food industry and university research, Howell brings 25 years of experience to the role. His vision is to bridge engineering needs in agricultural sciences and natural resources to sustainably address the world's growing population and food requirements.
Having earned his doctorate in food engineering from the University of Wisconsin-Madison, Howell's passion for agricultural engineering began at a young age, as his father was an agricultural engineer specializing in irrigation innovation for the U.S. Department of Agriculture.
Returning to Arkansas after serving as the executive director of the Nebraska Food Processing Center, Howell aims to drive economic growth by leveraging biological and agricultural engineering technology innovations. He envisions the department as a platform for students to contribute meaningfully to society, creating a workforce that can make a positive impact in various fields.
Howell's combination of industry and academic experience has impressed the University of Arkansas, making him an ideal leader to drive research collaborations and innovation within the Arkansas Agricultural Experiment Station and the University of Arkansas System.
