USDA Reports Wisconsin Corn 82% in Good to Excellent

Wisconsin farmers had 5.9 days suitable for fieldwork during the week ending September 7, 2025, according to the USDA’s National Agricultural Statistics Service. Weekly temperatures were slightly below normal across the state.

Topsoil moisture levels were rated 2 percent very short, 13 percent short, 81 percent adequate, and 4 percent surplus. Subsoil conditions were nearly identical, at 2 percent very short, 12 percent short, 82 percent adequate, and 4 percent surplus.

Corn development moved forward, with 88 percent of fields reaching the dough stage or beyond. Corn dented stood at 54 percent one day behind last year and three days behind the five-year average while 10 percent of the crop was mature.

Overall corn condition was rated 82 percent good to excellent, down one point from the previous week. Harvest of corn for silage reached 10 percent.

Soybeans continued to advance, with 96 percent setting pods and 26 percent coloring, which is four days behind both last year and the average. Crop condition was 81 percent good to excellent, down three points from last week.

Potato harvest reached 40 percent, with 89 percent of the crop in good to excellent shape. Winter wheat planting was 9 percent complete.

Alfalfa hay harvest progressed with the third cutting at 97 percent and the fourth cutting at 65 percent, ahead of last year and the average. Hay rated 80 percent good to excellent, while pasture conditions dropped to 70 percent.
