The University of Wisconsin Division of Extension is hosting an in-person Save A Calf, Save A Cow - Dairy Workshop designed for dairy producers and dairy workers who want to strengthen their calving management skills.
The program will be presented in English, with slides available in both English and Spanish. Spanish interpretation, as well as other language support, can be provided upon request to ensure the workshop is accessible to a diverse workforce.
This hands-on workshop focuses on practical, science-based techniques to help participants feel confident when preparing cows for calving and caring for newborn calves. Topics include transition cow nutrition, body condition management, recognizing early and active stages of labor, and applying proper obstetric techniques during challenging deliveries. Participants will also learn best practices for immediate calf care to promote strong starts and improve long-term herd health.
Whether you are experienced with calving or relatively new to livestock care, the workshop offers valuable, real-world instruction that can help reduce stress during calving, improve animal welfare, and support better production outcomes.
The cost to attend is $20 per person, which covers in-person instruction and take-home educational materials. Lunch is not included. Registration is required, and space is limited to the first 20 paid participants.
The workshop will take place on February 11 from 9:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. at the Education Center, 624 E. College St., Medford, Wisconsin. Participants needing Spanish interpretation must register and pay by January 21, 2026, while English-only registrations are due by February 4, 2026.
