The Wisconsin Cattlemen's Association (WCA) is hosting its annual Summer Tour on June 24. This event is a great opportunity for beef producers and enthusiasts to connect and gain valuable insights. The tour will begin at Nobleland Beef Farms near Lancaster, showcasing different cattle feeding methods, including open lots and deep pack bedded barns. Participants can learn about various feeding techniques.
Next, the tour will visit the Lancaster Agricultural Research Station, known for its contributions to sustainable agricultural practices. Attendees can explore research on topics like efficient beef cattle production, crop and manure management, water quality, economic evaluation, and rotational grazing.
At Paramount Calves near Darlington, attendees will learn about the beef-on-dairy cross-sector. This facility specializes in raising dairy heifers and beef-on-dairy cross animals, providing unique insights into this aspect of beef production.
The final stop is Gaffney Family Cattle near Barneveld, where visitors will discover the family's journey from dairy cattle to Angus genetics. They also serve as an on-farm collection facility for Vytelle, reflecting the evolving landscape of beef production.
In addition to the tour stops, guest speaker Gene Copenhaver, the 2023 National Cattlemen's Beef Association Policy Division Chair, will share insights. The tour will also recognize Wisconsin Cattlemen's Association award recipients and scholarship awardees.
