Wisconsin Farm Bureau Marks 10 Years of Outreach Growth Now

By Blake Jackson

Wisconsin Farm Bureau is marking a decade of progress in helping members communicate the value of agriculture and connect with the public. The effort began in 2016 with the formation of the WFBF Promotion and Education Committee, launched as a grassroots project focused on outreach and member involvement. Since then, it has grown into a statewide program that adapts to changes in agriculture and shifting consumer interests.

Throughout the past ten years, the initiative has broadened its scope with new tools, events and training opportunities designed to strengthen farmer communication and leadership skills. What started primarily as an educational outreach effort has developed into a broader engagement model that encourages direct interaction between farmers and consumers.

The program now plays a central role in supporting advocacy, relationship-building and public understanding of modern agriculture across Wisconsin.

“I was one of the first members on the new P&E committee in 2016,” said Waushara County Farm Bureau member Lynn Leahy. “Over the years, we have changed drastically as we have realized the need for farmers to share their story with consumers. The committee has transitioned into a consumer engagement program.”

This evolution was formally recognized in December 2025 when voting delegates approved renaming the program from Promotion and Education to Promotion and Engagement to better reflect its mission.

"As we look ahead to the next decade, our focus is meeting consumers where they are and continuing to build trust through authentic, farmer-led engagement,” said Promotion and Engagement Committee Chair Steve Mueller. “Our goal is to cultivate meaningful connections with farmers by equipping Farm Bureau members with the tools and confidence to share their story."

With continued growth and innovation, the program is positioned to expand its impact even further in the years ahead.
