Wisconsin farm to school grant program now open

Wisconsin farm to school grant program now open

By Blake Jackson

The Wisconsin Department of Agriculture, Trade and Consumer Protection (DATCP) is seeking applications for the Wisconsin Farm to School Grant Program, offering up to $250,000 in funding. This one-time federal grant aims to expand or create new farms to school activities.

The program seeks to strengthen Wisconsin's farm to school network by encouraging partnerships, initiatives, and data collection to measure program impact and success. Funds are not intended for one-time meal funding.

Eligible applications must involve three or more partners engaging youth in farm to school activities and include a school food service director, an early care education (ECE) director, or an authorized school or community nutrition program representative.

Grants ranging from $10,000 to $40,000 will be funded for one year and are open to various expenses including salaries, equipment, materials, and supplies. Matching funds are required, with a minimum of 20% of the total project cost.

Selected projects will begin in March 2024. An informational webinar about the program will be hosted by DATCP on January 11, 2024, at 1 p.m. Registration is required. To register for the webinar, access the grant information and application materials, or learn more about the program, visit datcp.wi.gov/Pages/AgDevelopment/FarmToSchool.aspx. For more information on the grant, email DATCPdadgrants@wisconsin.gov.
