Although crops continue to look good around Wisconsin, the upcoming harvest will be slightly less than last year's bumper crop. According to the USDA's latest crop production summary, farmers in the Badger State are expected to reap about 506 million bushels of corn in 2021. Yields are expected to average 172 bushels per acre, a decrease of about two bushels per acre from last year. And planted area is estimated at 3.95 million acres, with only 2.94 million to be harvested for grain.
Total soybean production is also forecast to be lower than last year at 101 million bushels. The yield is forecast at 49 bushels per acre, which is two bushels below 2020. Planted acreage is estimated at 2.10 million acres with 2.07 million acres to be harvested.
Nationally, corn production for grain is forecast at 15 billion bushels, up two percent from 2020. The soybean crop will also be slightly higher for the year at 4.37 billion bushels.
