Wisconsin Leaders Push for Strong Biofuel Policy

Wisconsin Leaders Push for Strong Biofuel Policy

By Blake Jackson

Wisconsin soybean leaders travel to Washington to share the importance of clean fuel and the growing role of soy-based biofuels in the nation’s energy future. Their main goal is to show how renewable fuels support farmers, strengthen the economy, and reduce environmental impact.

Leaders from the Wisconsin Soybean Association join a national clean fuels group for meetings and discussions with lawmakers throughout the day.

During the visit, the team meets members of Wisconsin’s congressional delegation to talk about the benefits of biodiesel and renewable diesel. They explain how these fuels help lower emissions and create new markets for farmers.

A key meeting includes a productive discussion with a congressional representative who welcomes their ideas on how low carbon fuels can continue to move the country forward.

The soybean group thanks lawmakers for giving time to hear directly from farmers and industry leaders. Direct conversations help improve understanding and make it easier to discuss important goals. The team stresses the need for strong and predictable federal policy that supports renewable fuel growth.

One of their main requests is for the Environmental Protection Agency to finalize Renewable Fuel Standard volumes that match the agency’s early proposal. They also ask for small refiner exemptions to be placed back into the Renewable Fuel Standard so the fuel system remains fair and balanced.

Soybean leaders explain how important it is to expand markets and uses for soybeans. They raise concerns about foreign fuel materials entering the U.S. market and ask lawmakers to support American grown and American made fuels.

They also call for equal tax incentives for maritime fuel, which is especially important to Great Lakes states that rely on shipping and water transportation.

The visit emphasizes one clear message. Wisconsin farmers are ready to help power the country with clean, dependable, and homegrown energy solutions that support both rural communities and the environment.
