Wisconsin Opens Bids to Host Alice in Dairyland Finals

By Blake Jackson

The Wisconsin Department of Agriculture, Trade and Consumer Protection (DATCP) is inviting counties to submit proposals to host upcoming Alice in Dairyland Finals events. Counties can apply to host the 81st, 82nd, and 83rd Finals, scheduled for 2028, 2029, and 2030.

Details and proposal guidelines are available on the Alice in Dairyland website, and submissions must be completed by June 1, 2026.

Each year, the Finals are organized in a different county and feature several events leading up to the selection of the next Alice in Dairyland, the state’s agricultural ambassador.

Economic development groups and agricultural promotion organizations are encouraged to participate, as the event attracts visitors and media from across the state. When Crawford County hosted the 78th Alice in Dairyland Finals in 2025, the three-day event generated more than $2 million in economic activity for the county.

Preparation for the Finals typically begins at least a year in advance. During this period, the current Alice in Dairyland attends monthly events in the host county, helping promote the upcoming competition while gaining insight into the region’s agricultural sector. By mid-March, the host county holds a press conference announcing the finalists for the next Alice.

The process concludes with a three-day Finals event featuring agribusiness tours, media engagements, personal interviews, and candidate presentations. Public activities include a commodity showcase and question-and-answer session, along with a finale banquet celebrating the program and local agriculture.

“Hosting the Alice in Dairyland Finals has been an incredible experience for Crawford County," said Carol Roth, Chair of the 78th Alice in Dairyland Steering Committee.

“Our committee not only helped others learn more about the Alice in Dairyland position and its legacy, but they also brought attention to the diversity and importance of agriculture throughout the county and state."

Roth added, “Even though Crawford County is home to three former Alices, this was the first time the county hosted this event. It was an excellent opportunity to bring people together, enhance connections, and open doors for the future of the Alice in Dairyland program."

Meanwhile, Marathon County will host the 79th Alice in Dairyland Finals from May 14-16, 2026.
