'FFA Stars' to be Honored at State Convention

Some of the top FFA members in Wisconsin will be honored this summer in Madison during the organization's state convention. The Department of Public Instruction and the Wisconsin FFA Center have announced its candidates for the 'Stars Over Wisconsin' awards--which include finalists for the Star Farmer Award, Star in Ag Placement, Star in Agribusiness and Star in Agriscience.

In the running for Star Farmer are Dillan Schwochert, Montello; Owen Jones, Randolph Cambria-Friesland; Norah Ganske, Waupun; Megan Walter, Granton; Faith Beining, Marshfield; Rachel Weyland, New London; Ashley Loehrke, Weyauwega-Fremont; and Brayden Peter, Howards Grove.

Students nominated for Star in Ag Placement include Lane Branville, New Auburn; Chalee Line, Fennimore; Hannah Dahl, Columbus; Dillan Schwochert, Montello; Colton Alsum, Randolph Cambria-Friesland; Luke Sprecher, Sauk Prairie; Megan Walter, Granton; Brandon Jakobi, Loyal; and Claire Duch, New London.

Finalists for the Star in Agribusiness competition will be Caden Broege, Clinton; Aaron Makos, Juda; Cameron Pokorny, Waupun; and Brandon Jakobi, Loyal.

And the top award nominees for Star in Agriscience are Wyatt Gotham, New Auburn; and Amanda Bender, Big Foot.

Each of the candidates will receive a plaque, with the top winners of each award also earning cash prizes. The finalists are all 2022 recipients of the State FFA Degree and were selected according to the amount of money earned in their Supervised Agricultural Experience Program.

This year, 331 student will earn their state degrees this year. The Wisconsin FFA Convention will be held at the Alliant Energy Center in June.
