Boost your CAFO - expert workshops in WI

Boost your CAFO - expert workshops in WI

By Blake Jackson

The University of Wisconsin–Madison Division of Extension and the Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources (DNR) are teaming up to offer a valuable series of workshops across the state.

These in-person sessions, running from late January to early February, are designed to equip you with the knowledge and insights to manage your operation effectively and responsibly. Whether you already have a WPDES CAFO permit or are considering one, these workshops offer something for everyone, including key employees, consultants, and agency staff.

Deep Dive into Key Topics:

  • Mastering Nutrient Management: Develop a high-quality, compliant Nutrient Management Plan to optimize efficiency and environmental protection.
  • Diving into On-Site Treatment Systems: Get a comprehensive overview of treatment systems, including permit considerations and best practices.
  • Effective Mortality Management: Learn crucial strategies for handling animal mortality on your farm.
  • Prepared for Anything: Develop a robust emergency response plan to tackle any unforeseen situations.

Local Expertise and Networking:

In addition to DNR experts, each session features insightful panel discussions led by farmers, agronomists, and manure applicators. These local voices will share their practical knowledge and address challenges specific to your region, from groundwater concerns to the impact of footbaths on forage copper concentrations.

Don't Miss Out:

  • Early Bird Bonus: Register online before the deadlines for each session and save $10!
  • Convenient Locations: Choose from seven workshops scattered across Wisconsin, each running from 10:00 am to 3:30 pm (except Manitowoc, which is 7:00 am to Noon).
  • Invest in Your Success: The registration fee is $46 ($56 after the deadline), a small investment for the valuable knowledge and network connections you'll gain.
