Rettler's remarkable achievements place her among the seven esteemed teachers acknowledged at the conference for their inventive methods of incorporating agricultural concepts into various subjects, such as reading, math, science, and social studies.
This esteemed award, jointly presented by the National Agriculture in the Classroom Organization (NAITCO), the U.S. Department of Agriculture's National Institute of Food and Agriculture (USDA-NIFA), and Farm Credit, highlights Rettler's exceptional talent in bringing the multifaceted world of agriculture to life for her students, their families, and peers. Through engaging discussions on current agricultural topics, hands-on experiences like making ice cream and fruit smoothies, and immersive field trips to local farms, Rettler has successfully fostered a deep understanding and appreciation of agriculture among her students.
Katie Carpenter, president of NAIYTCO, emphasizes the critical role played by innovative teachers like Rettler in nurturing an agriculturally literate generation. In addition to Rettler, six other exceptional teachers were recognized for their outstanding achievements in agricultural education. The recipients include Clayton and Megan Kappauf from Oxford Academy and Central School District, Haley Broussard from Dozier Elementary, Melody Thieme from Crimson View Elementary, Monica Massei from Kennedy Elementary School, and Stacey Sanborn from Manchester School.
