DATCP Accepting Applications for 79th Alice in Dairyland

By Blake Jackson

The Wisconsin Department of Agriculture, Trade and Consumer Protection (DATCP) is now accepting applications for the 79th Alice in Dairyland, inviting individuals who are passionate about promoting Wisconsin agriculture to apply through January 30, 2026.

Alice in Dairyland is one of the most recognizable marketing and communications professionals in Wisconsin’s agricultural community. Serving as a full-time spokesperson, Alice travels extensively across the state to promote agriculture and its vital role in Wisconsin’s economy.

The position involves building relationships with television, radio, and print media; writing and delivering speeches at events; and using social media platforms to share the stories of Wisconsin’s diverse agricultural industries.

Additional responsibilities include developing and implementing marketing strategies, giving classroom presentations, and networking with agricultural leaders and partners. Alice must also gain a broad understanding of Wisconsin agriculture and communicate that knowledge effectively to both rural and urban audiences.

“Serving as ‘Alice’ is a once in a lifetime opportunity. This role is an incredible way to contribute to Wisconsin’s agricultural industry as an educator, communicator, media professional, relationship builder, student, and so much more," said 78th Alice in Dairyland Sarah Hagenow.

"I couldn’t be more excited to continue the important work of sharing the stories of the diverse people and places that make Wisconsin an agricultural powerhouse, while educating others and inspiring them to do the same.”

Applicants should demonstrate an interest in Wisconsin agriculture, have public speaking experience, and possess at least three years of education, training, or experience in communications, marketing, education, or public relations. Candidates must be Wisconsin residents and at least 21 years old.

The one-year, full-time contractual position begins July 6, 2026. The selected candidate will travel independently throughout the state and maintain weekly in-person office hours at DATCP’s Madison office.

The position offers an annual salary of $45,000, paid leave benefits, use of a vehicle for official business, and reimbursement of up to $450 per month for individual health insurance, along with coverage of professional travel expenses.

Applications must include a cover letter, completed application form, resume, and three professional references and be submitted to DATCPAlice@wisconsin.gov by 4:30 p.m. on January 30, 2026. Qualified applicants will advance through interviews and program events held between February and May 2026.
