Deadline set for USDA disaster relief aid

Deadline set for USDA disaster relief aid

By Jamie Martin

The U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) has set August 14, 2024, as the deadline for farmers to apply for financial aid under the Emergency Relief Program (ERP) for losses incurred during natural disasters in 2022. The application process began in October 2023 through the Farm Service Agency (FSA).

FSA Administrator Zach Ducheneaux urges affected farmers and ranchers to apply promptly. "If natural disasters impacted your farm or ranch in 2022, there’s still time to submit your application for Emergency Relief Program assistance,” Ducheneaux stated. He emphasized the importance of gathering necessary documents and contacting local offices to complete the application process.

The Disaster Relief Supplemental Appropriations Act has allocated $3.2 billion to help address an estimated $10 billion in uncovered crop losses.

ERP 2022 aims to compensate for damage to crops, trees, bushes, and vines caused by various natural disasters such as wildfires, hurricanes, floods, excessive heat, tornadoes, and other severe weather events during the calendar year 2022.

This funding is critical for restoring the livelihoods of farmers and ensuring the sustainability of the agricultural sector in the aftermath of devastating natural events.
