EPA seeks farm leaders for advisory panel

EPA seeks farm leaders for advisory panel

By Jamie Martin

The Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) is actively seeking nominations from the farming and ranching community to join its Farm, Ranch, and Rural Communities Advisory Committee.

Established in 2008, this committee plays a pivotal role in advising the EPA on environmental issues crucial to the agricultural sector and rural areas.

The committee's advisory scope includes diverse topics such as climate change, water and air quality, pesticides, environmental justice, and technological innovation. These areas are critical as they directly affect the sustainability and productivity of agricultural practices.

Candidates interested in joining the committee should meet specific eligibility criteria. Nominees must be actively engaged in farming or ranching, hold a senior position within their organization, and demonstrate leadership in agricultural-related groups or businesses. The detailed nomination process and eligibility requirements are outlined in the Federal Register.

Appointed members will serve two- or three-year terms, with the committee meeting biannually, usually in Washington, D.C. This commitment provides a unique opportunity for leaders in the agricultural community to influence federal environmental policies directly.

Nominations are open until September 5. Those interested in applying or nominating someone are encouraged to reach out to their state Farm Bureau for more information. This is a significant opportunity for farmers and ranchers to ensure that their voices and concerns are heard at the highest levels of environmental policy-making.
