In July 2024, Wisconsin's milk production reached 2.76 billion pounds, showing a slight decrease from the previous year, according to the USDA's National Agricultural Statistics Service.

Despite this reduction, the average number of milk cows in the state remained steady at 1.27 million, although it did represent an increase of 1,000 cows from July 2023.

Production per cow averaged 2,175 pounds for the month, marking a 5-pound decline compared to last July.

Nationally, milk production also experienced a slight dip in July, totaling 18.9 billion pounds, a 0.4 percent decrease from the same month in 2023.

On a per-cow basis, U.S. dairy farms averaged 2,028 pounds of milk, which is a modest increase of 1 pound from the previous year.

The total number of milk cows across the United States was recorded at 9.33 million head, which is 43,000 fewer than in July 2023 but a slight increase of 5,000 cows from June 2024.
