Food enthusiasts will have a chance to explore the future of flavorful, locally grown crops at the upcoming “Farm to Flavor” event, scheduled for Sunday, October 5, from 3:00-6:00 p.m. at the Garver Feed Mill in Madison, Wisconsin.
This interactive showcase connects the community with the people shaping tomorrow’s food system, including plant breeders, farmers, chefs, bakers, and beverage makers. Together, they are developing fruits, vegetables, and grains that prioritize both culinary taste and sustainable, organic production.
The afternoon will feature over 20 stations offering information, research highlights, and delicious samples. Guests can taste creative dishes highlighting curated crops such as wheat, rye, oats, barley, buckwheat, bitter gourd, Calabrian peppers, tomatoes, cucumbers, potatoes, strawberries, blueberries, black currants, and American persimmons.
For those who want to expand their experience, optional tastings of beer, wine, and spirits crafted from regional grains and fruits will also be available.
The event is organized by the Artisan Grain Collaborative (AGC), the Culinary Breeding Network, and the Seed to Kitchen Collaborative, led by UW-Madison professor and extension specialist Julie Dawson.
Tickets cost $42 in advance and $50 at the door, with an additional $10 for the beverage sampling experience. Discounts apply for students, farmers, and early registrants before September 15.
