Free soil health workshops across Wisconsin this October

By Blake Jackson

Calling all farmers, land managers, and anyone working with landowners! The UW-Madison Division of Extension is hosting a series of free Soil Health Workshops this October.

These workshops will equip you with the knowledge and tools needed to improve your soil's health and increase water infiltration.

Through hands-on experiences and expert presentations, you'll learn effective soil quality improvement strategies. As a bonus, you'll take home a free soil health test kit!

Four workshops will be held across the state in October:

  • Oct 8th: Lower Apple/Horse Creek watershed (Star Prairie)
  • Oct 10th: Wildcat Creek/Lake Sinnissippi watershed (Iron Ridge)
  • Oct 15th: ManCal/Spring Creek watershed (Brillion)
  • Oct 22nd: Fisher Creek watershed (Sheboygan)

You'll gain valuable skills like soil assessment techniques, learn to evaluate key soil properties, and hear from local experts. Plus, a rainfall simulator demonstration and a local farmer panel discussion will provide real-world insights.

Registration for these workshops is free, and lunch is provided. Space is limited, so register at least a few days in advance at https://go.wisc.edu/SoilHealth24. Priority will be given to farms within the respective watersheds, ensuring a tailored learning experience.

Don't miss this opportunity to improve your soil health and secure a free soil test kit! For more information, contact Kevin Erb at kevin.erb@wisc.edu or 920-391-4652.
