Wisconsin Women in Conservation (WiWiC) is organizing a free Urban Agriculture workshop on April 16th, from 1:00 PM to 3:30 PM, at the Milwaukee Youth Arts Center. This educational session is designed for urban growers of all experience levels and plot sizes.
Participants will gain valuable knowledge on soil health and water conservation practices to optimize their gardening efforts. The workshop will delve into innovative design and funding opportunities to implement these practices effectively.
Representatives from the United States Department of Agriculture's Natural Resources Conservation Service (NRCS) will be present to shed light on new federal farm programs specifically designed to support small-scale, innovative, and urban growers.
The workshop's primary objective is to empower women growers with the knowledge and resources necessary to improve soil quality, crop resilience, water conservation, and overall gardening success. The NRCS offers technical assistance programs and cost-sharing funding for raised beds, irrigation systems, and pollinator plantings.
Due to limited space, pre-registration for the workshop is mandatory. Light refreshments will be provided for attendees. The event welcomes women of all backgrounds and experience levels, from beginners to seasoned gardening enthusiasts. WiWiC events foster a collaborative learning environment, providing ample opportunity for story sharing and professional networking.
Photos captured during the event may be used for educational purposes and to promote future WiWiC events, with prior attendee consent. Children are welcome to attend this family-friendly workshop.
