Wisconsin youth in grades 3-13 can enhance their livestock knowledge and culinary skills through a series of free webinars hosted by Bernie O’Rourke, Extension Youth Livestock Specialist, from February to April 2025.
These sessions, running from 6:30-7:30 p.m., are a collaboration between the University of Wisconsin-Madison Animal & Dairy Sciences Department, the College of Agricultural and Life Sciences, and the Division of Extension. Recordings will be available on the Wisconsin Youth Livestock Program’s YouTube channel.
The series kicks off on February 20 with "Cooking with Beef," presented by the Wisconsin Beef Council. Angie Horkan and Kaitlyn Kesler will guide participants through preparing Taco Beef Nuggets. Attendees are encouraged to register promptly to receive the recipe and shopping list and cook along during the live session.
"Management for your animal project" follows on March 18. This session focuses on best practices in animal husbandry, emphasizing biosecurity to minimize disease spread. Dr. Gretchen May from the Department of Agriculture, Trade and Consumer Protection (DATCP) will be the featured speaker. Further details about this session will be released closer to the date.
The series concludes on April 17 with "Charcuterie Boards." Jessica Brown, Heather Hunt, and Joshua Brantley, experts in meat and food science, will share their expertise in creating impressive charcuterie boards.
Registration is available for all events. These webinars offer a valuable opportunity for young people to learn from experienced professionals and gain practical skills in animal care, food preparation, and more.
