The University of Wisconsin-River Falls, in collaboration with the Dairy Innovation Hub initiative, has awarded seven esteemed faculty members with research fellowships. These fellowships aim to bolster dairy-related research capacity and foster advancements in four key areas: land and water stewardship, human health and nutrition, animal health and welfare, and farm business growth.
With a generous annual investment of $7.8 million from the state of Wisconsin, the Dairy Innovation Hub taps into the research expertise of UW-Madison, UW-Platteville, and UW-River Falls. This strategic collaboration is dedicated to positioning Wisconsin's thriving $45.6 billion dairy community at the forefront of global dairy production, ensuring economic prosperity, environmental sustainability, and social well-being. Over 160 projects have already been funded since the initiative's launch in 2019, driving transformative change across the three campuses.
The faculty research fellowships offer temporary positions to permanent faculty members, providing crucial support for specific research projects and related costs. These include dedicated research time while maintaining teaching responsibilities. The selected faculty fellows from UW-River Falls represent diverse areas of expertise and will spearhead groundbreaking research projects to address critical challenges in the dairy industry.
Through innovative studies such as groundwater nutrient cycling, forage cover crop optimization, calf health and performance, soil nutrient contributions, greenhouse gas monitoring, rural economic development, and efficient manure land application, these faculty fellows are poised to make significant contributions to dairy research and sustainability.
