New soybean board members start 3-year terms in Wisconsin

By Blake Jackson

The Wisconsin Department of Agriculture, Trade and Consumer Protection (DATCP) recently certified the results of the Wisconsin Soybean Marketing Board election. Two soybean producers began their three-year terms as elected members on September 1, 2024.

Representing District 2 is Justin Bauer from Eau Claire, covering the counties of Buffalo, Dunn, Eau Claire, Jackson, Pepin, Pierce, Polk, St. Croix, and Trempealeau.

In District 7, Steve Wilkens from Random Lake was elected, representing Brown, Calumet, Door, Florence, Forest, Kewaunee, Langlade, Lincoln, Marinette, Menominee, Oconto, Oneida, Outagamie, Shawano, Vilas, and Waupaca counties.

The Wisconsin Soybean Marketing Board consists of seven members, each representing one of the state’s seven districts.

The board manages approximately $3.5 million collected from assessment fees paid by soybean producers in Wisconsin.

These funds are allocated towards research, educational initiatives, and promotional efforts aimed at enhancing the state’s soybean industry.

The board’s activities are essential in advancing the interests of soybean growers, supporting both the development and marketing of Wisconsin-grown soybeans.
