Wisconsin Ag literacy grants boost school programs

Wisconsin Ag literacy grants boost school programs

By Blake Jackson

The Wisconsin Farm Bureau Foundation’s Agriculture in the Classroom program has awarded $5,000 to educators and agriculture literacy programs across the state.

The grant funds will support innovative core curricula initiatives that incorporate agriculture concepts while helping students meet academic standards and develop career readiness skills.

“Agriculture is one of Wisconsin’s largest sectors, providing nearly one in every nine jobs in our state,” said Wisconsin Agriculture in the Classroom Coordinator Beth Schaefer. “We are excited to support educators working to grow student achievement while introducing students to skills and jobs needed to produce the food and fiber that we rely on every day.”

Groups, schools, and educators can apply for up to $500 as part of the Agriculture in the Classroom 'Ag in ALL Classrooms' grant program.

Several agricultural literacy projects have been awarded funding, including:

  • "Wisconsin Agriculture" at Milwaukee Parkside School of the Arts
  • "Fishin' for Greens" at the School for Agricultural & Environmental Studies (SAGES)
  • "Hunger and Sustainable Gardening" at Randall Consolidated School
  • "Pizza Garden" at Our Lady of Sorrows School
  • "Ag Education Tent" at Grant County Farm Bureau
  • "STEM in Agriculture for All!" at St. Mary School
  • "Sustainable Agriculture and Protecting the Environment" at Taylor County Farm Bureau
  • "New Milk Nutrition Lesson for Ag in the Classroom Presentation" at Sauk County Farm Bureau
  • "How my Food is Grown" at Racine Lutheran High School
  • "Hydroponic Exploration" at Prairie Ridge Intermediate

The next Ag in ALL Classrooms request for proposals will open on December 1. This program is made possible by the generous support of Compeer Financial, the Wisconsin Soybean Marketing Board, and AgCountry Financial.
