Mark your calendars, farmers and rural allies! The annual Farm and Rural Lobby Day hosted by Wisconsin Farmers Union (WFU) is back, and it's your chance to make your voice heard at the Wisconsin State Capitol. Happening on Wednesday, January 17th, this crucial event is a platform for advocating for issues that matter most to Wisconsin's agricultural communities.
WFU President Darin Von Ruden urges farmers to consider taking a day off the farm and joining the movement. "These are tough times for Wisconsin agriculture," he acknowledges, "but when faced with challenges, it's even more important that farmers and rural residents have a strong voice in shaping policies that impact our lives."
Lobby Day participants will champion key priorities established by WFU members at their December convention. Preserving small and mid-sized farms, tackling agricultural consolidation, promoting nonpartisan redistricting, and ensuring accessible healthcare are just some of the issues on the agenda.
The day kicks off at 10am at Bethel Lutheran Church, a stone's throw from the Capitol. Informative speakers will shed light on pending legislation relevant to farmers and rural communities, equipping you for impactful meetings with your elected representatives.
Following a hearty lunch, the group will head to the Capitol to engage in face-to-face discussions with senators and representatives. By 4pm, your voices will be heard loud and clear, shaping the future of Wisconsin agriculture and rural life.
Participation is completely free and open to all. Pre-registration is encouraged to ensure smooth legislative visits and carpool coordination for those traveling from different regions.
Please pre-register as soon as possible at www.wisconsinfarmersunion.com/events so legislative visits can be planned accordingly. For more information contact WFU Policy Coordinator Michelle Ramirez-White at mramirezwhite@wisconsinfarmersunion.com or 715-450-9507.
