The Wisconsin Cattlemen's Association (WCA) honored outstanding individuals and businesses during their 2024 Summer Tour in Eastern Wisconsin.
These awards celebrate dedication to quality beef production, environmental responsibility, and industry advocacy.
Cattlemen of the Year: Springs Creeks Cattle Company
The Mitchell family, operating Springs Creeks Cattle Company, received the coveted Cattlemen of the Year award. Based in southwest Wisconsin, they manage a seedstock herd featuring Angus, Limousin, Red Angus, and Lim Flex breeds.
They not only run successful sales throughout the year but also showcase their high-quality cattle at national competitions. Additionally, they've embraced direct-to-consumer sales through farmers markets, online platforms, and local schools.
Friend of the Cattlemen: Brad Robson
Brad Robson of Viroqua, Wisconsin, was recognized as the 2024 Friend of the Cattlemen. He has been a pillar of the Vernon County Cattlemen's organization, holding leadership positions and representing the county on the WCA Board of Directors.
Robson is known for his consistent attendance, valuable contributions, and his role in recruiting past and present managers for the WCA Steak Trailer. He is a strong advocate for the Wisconsin beef industry.
Environmental Stewardship Award: Reichert Land and Cattle
Chris and Jenny Reichert, owners of Reichert Land and Cattle in Sheboygan Falls, Wisconsin, were presented with the Environmental Stewardship Award.
They manage their cattle using an intensive rotational grazing system and prioritize soil health through cover crops and no-till practices.
Their commitment to sustainable agriculture is particularly crucial due to their proximity to Lake Michigan. The Reicherts' dedication ensures their land remains productive for generations to come.
Beef Quality Assurance Award: Deer Creek Angus
Greg and Karen Denzine, owners of Deer Creek Angus near Phillips, Wisconsin, received the Beef Quality Assurance Award.
Established in 1994, their purebred Angus operation prioritizes stress-free animal management and raising their own high-quality forage. They focus on breeding cattle with superior genetics for premium beef, which they market across the state.
The Denzines have also actively partnered with Taylor County Extension to host educational events, demonstrating their commitment to responsible practices and industry education.
