U.S. pork in Vietnam - National pork board trade mission

U.S. pork in Vietnam - National pork board trade mission

By Jamie Martin

The National Pork Board (NPB) is actively promoting U.S. Pork in Vietnam, a rapidly growing market with significant potential for U.S. pork exports.

NPB President Al Wulfekuhle will join the upcoming USDA Agricultural Trade Mission to Vietnam to explore opportunities and strengthen partnerships.

Vietnam's population is projected to reach 80 million by 2030, making it one of Asia's largest consumer markets.

Pork is the most popular protein in Vietnam, with consumption steadily increasing over the past five years.

The country's recent outbreaks of African swine fever have further increased demand for imported pork.

While the United States is not the leading supplier of imported pork to Vietnam, it has a significant opportunity to increase its market share.

However, the lack of a Free Trade Agreement with Vietnam puts U.S. pork at a disadvantage compared to competitors with FTAs.

NPB's strategy is to differentiate U.S. Pork in key markets and build strong partnerships with Vietnamese importers.

The trade mission will provide valuable insights into consumer preferences and identify potential areas for growth.

“We’re developing reliable partners that will buy pork from us year after year that we can depend on, and they can depend on us. That’s really what the U.S. pig industry needs: reliable partners with a lot of trust and that’s why we do trade missions,” Al said.

By leveraging its strengths and understanding the Vietnamese market, NPB aims to position U.S. Pork as a preferred choice for Vietnamese consumers and contribute to the growth of the U.S. pork industry.
