The U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) is celebrating the 60th anniversary of National Cooperative Month by reinforcing its commitment to rural cooperatives with more than $17 billion in investments.
Since the start of the Administration, these funds have spurred significant economic development and advanced equity across rural America.
USDA Secretary Tom Vilsack emphasized the critical role cooperatives play in the national economy, noting their contribution of over $700 billion in annual revenue and support for 2 million jobs.
The investments are aimed at enhancing local wealth and increasing economic opportunities, particularly through clean, affordable energy projects under the New ERA program.
The funding also aligns with the President’s agenda to rebuild the economy by empowering rural communities and supporting sustainable agricultural practices.
During this month's celebrations, initiatives will be highlighted that showcase how cooperatives have been pivotal in building resilient local and regional food systems and promoting fairer markets.
Key events include remarks by USDA Rural Development Under Secretary Dr. Basil Gooden at the Cooperative IMPACT Conference in Washington, DC, focusing on how cooperatives strengthen community ties and support economic growth.
For those interested in the supportive services offered by the USDA to rural cooperatives, including financial assistance and technical aid, more information can be found on the USDA Rural Development Cooperative Services website.
