Wisconsin's grain storage totals saw significant changes in 2024, with corn and soybean stocks increasing compared to the previous year, according to the latest USDA National Agricultural Statistics Service Grain Stocks report.
As of September 1, 2024, corn stocks in all storage positions in Wisconsin reached 100 million bushels, marking a 35 percent increase from the 74 million bushels recorded on September 1, 2023. Of these total corn stocks, 46 percent were stored on farms.
The indicated disappearance for corn from June to August 2024 was 114 million bushels, 15 percent lower than the 134 million bushels during the same period in 2023.
Soybean stocks in Wisconsin as of September 1, 2024, totaled 9.73 million bushels, a 4 percent increase from the 9.39 million bushels reported the previous year.
Approximately 31 percent of these soybean stocks were stored on farms. Soybean disappearance during the June-August 2024 quarter was 20.6 million bushels, up 19 percent from 17.4 million bushels during the same period in 2023.
The report also highlighted changes in oat and wheat stocks. Oat stocks stored in Wisconsin decreased, with total stocks at 5.31 million bushels in 2024, down from 8.84 million bushels in 2023. Meanwhile, all-wheat stocks were not published due to confidentiality restrictions.
